A comprehensive round-up highlighting the resounding success of the i2 User and Training Conference Europe 2023 in London from September 26th - 28th.
It has been a while since we held an i2 User and Training Conference in Europe and what an event it was! It was a fantastic few days with plenty of energy, positivity, smiling faces, and a real sense of excitement for the return of a UK-based i2 conference.
The conference attracted a wide range of delegates from more than 30 countries with representation from over 100 organizations - comprised of a wide variety of users from different backgrounds, and of course, our valued sponsors, partners, speakers and experienced i2 staff.
From the keynote sessions, to hands-on training, and a wide variety of inspiring presentations, the conference proved to be a successful gathering of like-minded individuals passionate about harnessing the power of #Connectedi2.
Day one kicked off with a keynote from Jamie Caffrey, i2's Executive Vice President, and Mike Barton CBE, former Chief Constable of Durham. Mike delivered a humorous and engaging start to the conference with his unique take on policing over the years to a capacity crowd. A very well received presentation, it set the scene for more great things to come.
Day two was opened by two very different, but equally brilliant keynote speakers. Following a product overview by Adam Leach, i2's VP of Research and Development, Dark Armour's Stuart Green and Senior Lecturer, Nadia Tuominen took to the stage. Stuart unveiled some of their latest developments in which Dark Armour is taking a connected i2 Analyst's Notebook to a whole new level. Nadia helped to open our minds to our subconscious and demonstrated how our brains can do some pretty incredible things which we would all do well by to listen to!
They keynote speeches were a great start to the day. Nadia on day two was inspiring. Mike Barton was also fantastic, very thought provoking.
Sharing real-life use cases
Nothing resonates more than hearing about real-life experiences. At the i2 User and Training Conference, experts from various fields shared their experiences and demonstrated how they've utilized the power of i2 analysis to overcome complex challenges.
The scenarios included organized crime gangs, people trafficking, financial crime investigations, and even building investigative databases from scratch! These stories not only inspired attendees but also provided invaluable insights into the practical application of the software in diverse contexts, from law enforcement to fraud detection and much more.
The variety was great. There were case studies and examples, OSINT techniques, how other organizations use the products, i2 suite. I liked it all.
Hands-on i2 training
An important part of the conference was to help users of all levels to gain some extra hands-on training. From beginner-level introductions to advanced topics, attendees had the opportunity to explore the features in both i2 Analyst's Notebook and i2 iBase and take away new techniques by engaging in structured hands-on activities that showcased the full potential of i2.
A big thank you to the i2 team and Shortest Path Training for running such popular training sessions. Users can continue their learning here.
Ask an i2 expert
First introduced at this year's North America conference, the i2 Suite again proved to be a very popular addition to the agenda. Open throughout the two days, it gave the opportunity for attendees to meet the i2 team and seek help with any issues or questions they had, and get some valuable one-on-one time with our experts.
It also included some research activities led by our design team to give customers the opportunity to help influence the future development of i2 products.
Really appreciated the chance to get up to date in the i2 suite.
Collaboration, comedy and casino!
In addition to the presentation sessions, the conference also provided the opportunity for delegates to network and connect. It was lovely to see the conversations flowing naturally during coffee breaks, lunches, and during the evening networking event.
The Comedy and Casino Night on Wednesday was a hit! BBC Radio 4's Alfie Moore had us all in hysterics before everyone got to splash the #Connectedi2 branded casino cash and enjoy a mouth-watering BBQ buffet. Congratulations to our high rollers of the night who won some very desirable trophies to show off in their office!
The end of the conference was rounded off by a closing keynote from Michael Ask from the International Testing Agency who recounted his many and varied years of experience in dealing with doping in sports and the Nordic Bike wars. There was just some time left to collect some i2 merchandise which included a laptop bag sponsored by Bytes and a privacy kit from MKCVI before we bid farewell to our 300 delegates until next year.
I really liked the use cases, road map, experimental features, location, food, and especially the casino. So basically I loved the event and was glad I could participate. Great job i2 :)

Thanks to our sponsors and exhibitors
In addition to the main conference sessions, the event featured an exhibition space where vendors and partners showcased their products and solutions. This was a golden opportunity for delegates to explore complementary tools, technologies, and services that augment the capabilities of the i2.
Thank you again to our sponsors that helped to make the conference such a success.
